Did you? It was a crazy, busy, exciting weekend. We handed out nearly 2,000 of our new postcards, and personally talked to nearly 1,000 brides and their groupies. It was awesome! You know, the Bridal Extravaganza is THE LARGEST bridal show in the world. I guess it's true...everything's bigger in Texas. We had a wonderful time meeting new clients, and visiting with past brides who are now bridesmaids for their friends. We unveiled our new line of "tricked out" albums that have luxuriously textured, shimmery cover materials, metal cameo images, and specialty papers like pearl and metallic. The response was tremendous. Several brides booked us just for bridal or engagement sessions and we are planning some fun, personalized photo shoots for them. All that sounds like a lot of work considering that we limit the number of weddings we shoot to around 30 per year. However, we know we have to meet a lot of brides to find the truly discerning clients who consider photography to be a top priority for their wedding.
NOW WHAT? So you came home from the show with a bag full of fliers and postcards from nearly 100 photographers. NOW WHAT? You spread them all out and start comparing prices, right? But is it an "apples to apples" comparison? How do you know what TYPES of albums are included, how long the photographer has been in business, how many weddings they have photographed, do they carry a million-dollar insurance policy, etc? I think the quote made by John Ruskin over 100 years ago really summarizes the heartache you can set yourself up for if your wedding photography is going to the lowest bidder:
"It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse still to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better."
That's why our motto is simple: "Photography lasts a lifetime...compromise elsewhere!"
Feel free to call us for a no-obligation consultation. We'll tell you how to look great on your wedding day, educate you on photography in general, and our services specifically.
